CORPORATE MANSLAUGHTER

The Court of Appeal has refused Cotswold Ceotechnical Holdings (CGH) leave to appeal its conviction under the Corporate Manslaughter and Corporate Homicide Act 2007. On 15 February 2011, CGH became the first company to be convicted under the Act. The prosecution followed the death of an employee, junior geologist Alexander Wright, on 5 September 2008. Wright had been taking soil samples from inside a pit that had been excavated as part of a site survey in Stroud and was crushed to death when the sides of the pit collapsed.
