Edf Seeks 60-year Lifetimes To Boost Revenues, Postpone New Reactors

EDF plans to operate its PWRs for 50 or 60 years, a strategy aimed at boosting revenues while postponing the construction of new reactors at home, senior officials of Electricite de France said last week.rnExtending the lifetime of each 900-MW-class PVVR from 40 to 60 years would create a net value for EDF of Eur 1.2 billion (US$1.55 billion currently) per unit, EDF Chief Financial Officer Daniel Camus told participants at an EDF investors meeting in London December 4. The years of additional operation beyond the currently anticipated 40-year lifetimes would also result in a "pretty gigantic" cash flow, he said.
