Plans for new Dukovany unit challenged by Czech opposition party

Czech government hopes of winning backing by all the country's political parties of its plan to build a new reactor of up to 1,200 MW at the Dukovany plant in partnership with power company CEZ and funded by a state loan and power purchase agreement are facing fundamental opposition from the country's second biggest opposition party, the Pirates.In spite of the criticism, CEZ spokesman Ladislav Kriz said in an email July 11 that the nearly 70% state-owned power company expects to sign two agreements with the Ministry of Industry and Trade between July 20 and July 30 setting out the framework for the partnership and first stage targets for the project. An earlier target of the end of June was missed, with CEZ citing scheduling problems on the government side.
