Swedish conservatives call for continued use of nuclear power

Sweden risks electricity shortages and having to import fossil fuel-basedelectricity if it shuts down its nuclear fleet, Moderate party EuropeanParliament candidate Tomas Tobe said during a debate April 4.His comments came shortly after leading members of theconservative Moderate party called for the government to renegotiate amulti-party energy agreement to ensure continued nuclear power use.“There has to be reasonableness in climate policy and we neednuclear power,” Tobe said.Tobe was one of six European Parliament candidates participating inthe debate, which was organized by the Stockholm Chamber ofCommerce. European Parliament elections are scheduled for May 23-26.
