Hitachi Abandons Plans for UK's Wylfa Newydd Plant

Japan’s Hitachi Ltd. said this week it would cancel plans to build the proposed two-unit Wylfa Newydd Nuclear Power Plant on the Welsh island of Angelsey, after failing to find private investors or secure sufficient government support. “Hitachi made this decision given that 20 months have passed since the suspension, and the investment environment has become increasingly severe due to the impact of COVID-19,” the company said in a September 16 statement.
