Many X-ray scattering experiments require an accurate determination of the net intensity or of the shape of the peak for the Compton and Rayleigh scattering processes. In this work, a new X-ray scattering instrument based on a polycapillary parallel X-ray optic (PPXRO) and a polycapillary collimating X-ray optic (PCXRO) was designed to increase the signal-to-noise ratio in order to improve the accuracy of the determination of the intensities of the Compton (inelastic) and Rayleigh (elastic) peaks, enabling accurate, rapid and non-destructive measurements. This low divergence configuration is beneficial for reducing Compton peak broadening and avoiding the Compton shift with a relatively high transmission efficiency and signal-to-noise ratio.
