Fukushima Daiichi update

Over the past year, the uphill portion of the Fukushima Daiichi site has been reforested not with trees but with tariks; 351,000 m~3 of contaminated water is now stored on the site (mainly zone HI) in almost 1000 tanks of different sorts: large upright flanged and welded steel cylinders, and square and rounded horizontal cylinders. There were also a number of large covered reservoirs; unfortunately leaks discovered in April 2013 forced them to be emptied. Now all contaminated water is stored above ground. More tanks are being built all the time; leaks in a few bolted upright storage cylinders in August 2013 forced a change to welded tanks only, and the bolted ones will be removed.
