Topical issue on 'HTR-2004'

After the First International Topical Meeting on High Temperature Reactor Technology had very successfully taken place in Petten/The Netherlands in April of 2002 it was decided to continue HTR conferences biannually. From the very beginning it had been clear that the Second International Topical Meeting on High Temperature Reactor Technology must be granted to the Chinese which, to the astonishment of the world, speedily - and surprisingly without any major difficulties - had erected their HTR-10. The set date of the next conference had been quickly found: 2.5 years after the first conference, i.e. September 22-24, 2004. The unanimous decision to have the Second International Conference on HTRs in China was prudent and wise. More than 200 HTR specialists flocked to Peking to hear the latest scientific news and - more or less - the latest progress on many scientific and technical aspects. In addition, they were able to hear the views of their 'bosses' on the envisaged immediate or future plans of their respective HTR-designs. All in all, approximately 115 papers were presented on many pertinent HTR issues.
