摘要

In recent years, nuclear energy has been considered a sustainable energy source to potentially solve both energy and global warming problems. Currently, many countries worldwide are re-evaluating nuclear energy. Additionally, the United States, China and India are starting or planning constructions of new nuclear power plants. Under such circumstances, the sixth Japan-Korea symposium on Nuclear Thermal Hydraulics and Safety (NTHAS6) was held in Okinawa, Japan on November 24-27, 2008. During the symposium more than one hundred and fifty technical papers were presented and discussed. These papers discussed many topics including state-of-the-art technologies for nuclear thermal-hydraulics and safety, innovative nuclear systems, power up-rate, life extension as well as peaceful use of nuclear energy in a variety of scientific and industrial fields. We selected several papers from the symposium that had archival value and invited the authors to submit their manuscripts for consideration of publication in Nuclear Engineering and Design.
