The image of the production line of a arge-scale plant is usually that of products flowing successively along a belt conveyor line. However, in this age of manufacturing various products in small lots, the belt conveyor system may not provide a flexible type of setup. Investigations are continuing for the realization of an ever flexible, highly efficient production system.
