Central Research Institute of Electric Power Industry has developed a measuring instrument using biosensors that enables environmental hormone to be measured immediately at the site. Various environmental hormones are known, and even concentrations of several parts per billion are known to exert adverse influences. Up till now, these substances was measured by chemical processes, or by sampling a large volume to testing water, then taking it back to the laboratory and measuring with an instrument to over its limit value, or by measuring the sample by concentrating to about a thousandth part of the original volume. With this measurement method, much time was required for the measurement and it was also quite difficult to ascertain when, where and how much of the sample water existed in the actual environment.
