Hitachi, Ltd. has developed a single-chip transceiver for intelligent optical network systems that features a transmission speed of 10Gbit/sec. This is a 0.25μm process silicon-germanium BiCMOS chip using a silicon on insulator (SOI) film wafer and incorporates all the main functions and testing circuits necessary for signal transceiving. This is the first LSI chip accommodating all the functions necessary for transceiving at a speed of 10Gbit/sec on a single chip, and uses a BiCMOS chip co-mounting a silicon-germanium heterojunction transistor (HBT) and a silicon CMOS on a SOI wafer capable of high-speed processing. The LSI main circuits are a multiplexing circuit capable of multiplexing at a rate of 16 units of 622Mbit/sec input data and a separation circuit for conversely separating the lOGbit signals into 16 units of 622-Mbit signals, also all the circuits necessary for displaying the single-chip transceiver functions including a phase control circuit (PLL) for internal clock frequency generation.
