Mayekawa Mfg. Co., Ltd. has developed a fresh citrus juice rapid-freeze physical distribution system. Citrus fruit harvesting and its fresh juice shipment have a seasonal time lag, so the juice is heated and concentrated to about one-sixth volume at a field factory subsequent to harvesting, then shipped out as concentrated fruit juice for reduction (dilution with water) at the import destination, or the fresh juice is filled into drum cans and frozen over a period of 24-48h in a refrigerated warehouse at a temperature lower than -20℃, then transported by tankers in cylindrical ice form in drum can size. These methods involve several disadvantages, such as the reduced concentrated juice losing its flavor, the loss of containers since they may not be returned, and the difficulty of efficiently storing the cylindrical frozen juice as the juice is processed into cylindrical ice form.
