Transplant chickens change their tune

Brain transplants that make chickens sing like quails are shedding light on how different parts of the nervous system conspire to create complex patterns of behaviour. A Californian biologist reported last week that by transplanting neural tissue from a quail embryo to a chicken embryo, he was able to transfer the sound and movement associated with the quail's song to the hatched chick.
