Intuition is more important than conscious reasoning in enabling people to make shrewd decisions on the basis of their experience, say American neuroscientists. Antonio Damasio and his colleagues at the University of Iowa College of Medicine in Iowa City have found that people performing a gambling experiment can win by acting on their hunches well before they can explain their winning strategy. And the findings suggest that the frontal lobe of the brain is the critical region where this intuitive information is formed and used.
