LabVIEW 7.1 and Sens ors Plug&Play: The new standard for automated sensor measurements

Imagine being able to connect and use sensors as easily as you connect USB devices to a PC. A new standard for sensors, outlined in IEEE 1451.4, reduces the time and challenges associated with sensor configuration. This new technology is now fully supported in National Instruments LabVIEW 7.1 and NI-DAQmx 7.2. IEEE 1451.4 establishes a universally accepted method of making sensors plug-and-play which defines how self-describing behaviour can be added to sensors with an analogue signal interface. It also defines the Transducer Electronic Data Sheet (TEDS) which is embedded in the sensor, as well as a low cost serial digital link. The TEDS allows the sensor to identify and describe itself to data acquisition systems built with Nl LabVIEW 7.1 and NI-DAQmx 7.2.
