Nortel now can protect businesses from never-before-seen threats using new intrusion-detection and -prevention technology that monitors network traffic and blocks the traffic that seems malicious. Called Threat Protection System, the defense gear consists of hardware probes that gather data about traffic and an appliance called Defense Center that tells the sensors what to look for and analyzes the data they collect. If Defense Center identifies anything suspicious, it automatically can trigger a new filter in a Nortel switch/firewall to block it.
