Wonder what's going on in your neighborhood? How many arrests were made nearby last week? When is the broken streetlight on the corner going to be fixed? These days residents of the District of Columbia can stay apprised of neighborhood conditions via data feeds that report items such as criminal activities, the location of vacant properties and unfinished service requests. These citizen-oriented data feeds are culled from the same sources that keep the District of Columbia's agencies and executive managers informed. It's all part of a program called DCStat that's designed to foster interagency data sharing and enable staff to make better-informed decisions. Under the covers, an enterprise service bus (ESB) helps move data among systems and agencies.
