10G Ethernet tests show promise: UNH plug fest shows technology can handle protocols, adapt to cabling

Makers of 10G Ethernet products came away from a recent University of New Hampshire Interoperability Lab plug fest with results they think will boost corporate networks' acceptance of the technology. rnThe vendors say customers want to know they can protect their existing investments in infrastructure and training as they move to 10G Ethernet, and they designed interoperability tests to try to bolster that confidence. rnIn particular, tests demonstrated that typical LAN protocols, as well as iSCSI and iWarp traffic, could run over the 10G Ethernet infrastructure. One implication for businesses is that IT administrators will not need training in the storage technologies iSCSI and iWarp to deploy them, saving on administrative costs. As long as they can handle Ethernet, they can handle these protocols.
