Oracle takes on Microsoft, Google with Cloud Office

Oracle's Cloud Office 1.0 productivity suite is set to give online applications from Microsoft and Google a fresh dose of competition. Complete with spreadsheet, text and presentation applications, Cloud Office is integrated with the on-prem-ises Oracle Open Office, and it's based on Open Document Format. Cloud Office is available via subscription at $40 per user per year for Professional Edition and $20 per user per year for Standard Edition. Cloud Office's cost could be key to its success against incumbent offerings such as Google Apps for Business, which costs $50 per user per year. Perpetual licenses are also available.
