Matrix Switch Management Made Easy

If you're familiar with matrix switch environments, you know Datacom Systems. And, until now, if you wanted to manage a Datacom system, you had only a few choices. Datacom has introduced a tiny server that lets users manage their resource-sharing matrix switches from any network point. I tested Datacom's new Switch Control Server SCS-01 at our Syracuse University Real-World Labs~(~R) and found it provides much-needed network-based central management of deployed protocol analyzers. Centralization of configuration tasks is a good thing, and network managers will welcome the one-stop control and troubleshooting abilities afforded by the SCS combined with the company's ManAgents software. Before the advent of the SCS, Datacom's switches were accessible directly via serial cable and other noncentralized methods, such as remote-control packages on PC-based analyzers.
