Delivering video over a corporate network has gotten easier over the years, but it's still not as simple as plug and play. Although industry standards like MPEG for compression and RTP for transport have rendered single-vendor solutions unnecessary, choosing the best set of appliances still requires research. Start at the receiving end. Do you plan to display the video on a television set, a computer screen or both? With a TV, you don't have to worry about OS incompatibilities, as long as a signal is being delivered in the regional format standard (NTSC, PAL or SECAM). But a computer screen has other advantages, including options for multiple resolution support, pause-and-resume during playback, and easy delivery to every desktop.
