Wireless LANs: Service-Level Design is the Game

The growing use of WLANs in today's business environment is forcing significant changes in their design. WLANs must now provide predictable service levels that will support critical applications, as well as isochronous voice and video data streams. Providing these service levels requires that network managers control bandwidth, deliver consistent quality of service, and use policy management to support the various service levels mandated by enterprise business needs. In short, even though using a shared transport medium restricts WLANs to a degree, they are expected to provide the same characteristics as wired LANs.
