About half of Network Computing's technology editors are musicians of one sort or another. We've got a singer, several guitar players, and trumpet, trombone and bass players. Around the high-tech industry, I've found many more musically inclined people than I'd ever imagined. Maybe geeks think music will help them get the girl or guy, but I'm pretty sure there's something else at play. Musicians are creative people. Now, when most people think engineer, scientist or technologist, they don't think "creative," because those professionals take methodical approaches to problem solving. Scientists test theories through experiments in which they systematically change single variables and record results. In a test lab, you build prototypes and make sure they perform to scale.
