Anyone who has spent time managing servers and storage can reel off at least a few horror sto ries about upgrades gone bad. Backup tapes that couldn't be read. Volume copies that mysteri-ously failed. That bone-chilling cold you feel when you realize that after hours of messing around with tapes and disk drives and new and old hardware, you've lost valuable data that will-be difficult if not impossible to reconstruct. Such experiences leave us with a healthy respect for the working storage system. If it works, don't fix it!
