It's been about five years since the last major upgrade to SQL Server-time enough for Microsoft to update just about every component of the database platform and incorporate many new features. I tested SQL Server 2005's April Community Technology Preview (CTP) in our Green Bay, Wis., Real-World Labs~® and found the new features and enhancements give developers flexibility for writing applications. The product also gives database administrators finer control over security, performance tuning and general administration.
