If your data center is busting out of its space or if you're building an additional data center for a single department, consider a standalone rack. This apparatus typically can be placed anywhere and can help you make the most of any available space to accommodate data-center growth. Most of the racks listed in our Interactive Buyer's Guide charts (find them online at ID# 1610ibg) range from standard issue to highly specialized, but two stand out: APC's InfraStruXure and Liebert's Foundation MCR. InfraStruXure lets you put a data center anywhere you have water and power—in a conference room, for instance. Foundation MCR is suited for hostile environments like a shop floor. Both can be considered "data centers in a box."
