IT organizations know success often depends on their ability to rapidly respond and even more rapidly realign resources to the critical needs of their business. Nowhere is this more apparent than in the area of business continuity (BC). Here, IT groups are looking to disk-based backup, snapshot, and remote replication technologies as a means to assure both internal and external stakeholders that critical systems and applications can be restored quickly, with minimal data loss, in the event of disruption. But applying the right mix of technologies to the problem, at the right price, is no easy task. Different solutions may offer great promise in one area but end up costing significantly more in terms of reliability; integration; amount of time required to operate them or how much network bandwidth, processing power, and storage space they consume.
