VoIP - Internet Telephony - is a means of making phone calls over the Internet. It's commonly used by IT professionals and, increasingly, by home and small business users. VoIP is rapidly becoming a huge phenomenon, as demonstrated by the success of US provider Vonage, and the $2.6billion purchase of Skype, a popular internet calling service, by eBay.
