Hackers are scary, at least according to Hollywood, where they're usually depicted as brilliant mavericks who can penetrate any secure system at the drop of a (black) hat. Most of this is exaggerated just to make a more entertaining story, but it still shapes how we think of malicious hackers. There's a feeling that they know more than us, and we're relatively helpless, able to do little more than try and block whatever new attacks might arise. But maybe, just maybe, there's another way.
