.net: You're known for elegant, standards-based design. Where did you pick it up from? TVD: I learned design and markup the hard way: by trial and error. When I was about 14 years old, I started getting interested in building websites. I had no idea how you could buy a domain name or what FTP was, so I signed up for the now-defunct GeoCities and crammed as much autoplay music and GIFs into it as possible. Later, I started experimenting with Microsoft FrontPage, and an entirely new world of tables and font tags opened up. Then a friend suggested I take a look at something called CSS. I moved from Dreamweaver to TextMate on PC, and then to Espresso on Mac.
