Dev advocates 'one less JPG'

Frontend developer Chris Ruppel has suggested developers should make small changes to sites for a big impact on performance. He explained that developers often utilise multiple JavaScript libraries to make sites beautiful, only to realise later that they are an "enormous download that the users are forced to bear". Rather than worrying how to "minify every last library or shave tests out of Modernizr" he recommended seeing if you can remove an image for similar performance gains. This was initially impacted by a large image of a mountain. He tried making it smaller but the quality decreased too much and on mobile it didn't pack the same punch anyway.
