PHP often gets a bad press for being inelegant. However, it's a great choice if you want to be able to easily host your application on inexpensive hosting, or to be able to easily find developers. Much of the perceived inelegance of PHP is actually down to comparisons being made between a framework and the PHP language itself. Most of us developing in PHP are using some kind of framework, whether something we have developed ourselves or a publicly available framework such as Zend Framework or Codelgniter.
