Verb plus noun collocations can be traced back to very early periods of English. However, not all verbs have been equally incident in this type of structure. Here, make plus noun collocations are examined by analysing scientific texts of the Modern English period in order to ascertain whether collocations vary depending on the type of text in which they occur. To accomplish this task two different types of texts are used: the Mathematic Sub-corpus of the Corua Corpus and samples of nineteenth-century fiction taken mainly from the Chadwyck-Healey Collection. At the same time, this survey is an attempt to shed some light on the possibly varying degree of collocation use according to register or text-type.
