NEC has been engaged in research and development on the speech technology and has developed a speech recogniz- er, "DS-8000", which can recognize speech via telephone lines, "DS-8000" can be used for various telephone ser- vices, in which it provides the speech-enabled interface. This paper describes several over-the-phone speech recognition applications and advantages of applying "DS- 8000" to them. This paper also introduces a speech-enabled, call routing system, "Denwamadoguchi-san." It allows callers simply to say the desired person's name and forwards their call to the corresponding extension.
