The Low-Power Consumption Design for Portable CD-ROM Drive

NEC has developed a new portable CD-ROM drive, CDR-401, a successor to the CDR-400. In spite of their same appearance, CDR-401 has been upgraded in its access time and transfer rate. NEC's adoption of a switching regulator in CDR-401 makes its battery life longer than in CDR-400. The authors explain this improvement in this paper.
