Israeli Navy's first SA'AR 6 corvette to receive combat system

Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI), together with the Administration for the Development of Weapons and Technological Infrastructure (part of the Israeli Ministry of Defense; IMoD) and the Israeli Navy, completed the first phase of installing the EL/M-2248 MF-STAR (Magen Adir) radars from IAI's ELTA Systems Ltd. on board the service's new 1,900-tonne (full displacement) SA'AR 6 (Magen class) corvettes. The radars will serve to locate and classify air and surface targets and help build an advanced and detailed maritime picture of the surveillance area. The radar system is also an important component of the Barak MX air Defence system (Ra'am Adir), providing a 'layer of defence' against advanced aerial and naval threats. Automatic track initiation can be set at 140nm (nautical miles; 300km) to 280nm (450km) for high-altitude fighter size aircraft and 13.5+nm (25+km) against sea-skimming anti-ship missiles.
