摘要

The authors are to be congratulated for a complete and professional comparison of the French and U.S. amphibious ships. Each time a question as to "why the difference" arose during the reviewer's reading of the paper, the answer was quickly discussed in the accompanying explanation. From reading the paper it becomes obvious that the differences between the French and U. S. navies in the employment of the two ships are largely responsible for the majority of the differences noted. This reader was particularly interested in the significant differences in the size of the deckhouse, in the load-out of amphibious craft and vehicles and, especially, the methodology for handling the latter.
