STATE OF THE SOCIETY

Good afternoon and welcome to asne Day 2004. It is my pleasure to summarize the State of the Society as I see it from the seat of president. Last year in my State of the Society message I shared my views on how dramatically the defense environment has changed in the past few years and how these changes have impacted the role of technical societies such as ASNE. I stated that to succeed in maintaining an active membership base and to provide value to members that we needed to "reengineer" both the processes we use and the content of ASNE programs. I also summarized several specific focus areas for FY 2004 including increased cooperation with other societies, a focus on staff positions and manning, a need to reinvigorate committee leadership and member participation, and a commitment to ensure our workshops and symposia are flexible and relevant to the times.
