摘要

Achieving improved mission effectiveness while minimizing total ownership cost requires that the human be considered upfront at the beginning of the acquisition process, as an integral component of the system-coequal in importance with system hardware and software. In acquisition and engineering communities government and industry have made vast progress in institutionalizing Human Systems Integration (HSI) within systems engineering. In parallel, the academic research community has advanced the state-of-the-art in understanding and applying human performance to critical mission effectiveness challenges. These tracks of success are becoming increasingly intertwined with lessons learned from military, industry and academia being shared across the board to help realize system improvements and optimal designs that necessarily reflect a thorough understanding of both science and engineering. This edition of the American Society of Naval Engineers (ASNE) Naval Engineers Journal features key technical papers presented at ASNE's Human System Integration Symposium (HSIS) 2007 that showcase examples of these achievements.
