Value Structure Analysis and process-Derived Performance Metrics for Shipbuilding

The highly competitive international merchant ship market compels shipbuilders to deliver competi- tive value to their customers. U.S. naval ship construction, however, takes place within a different type of business climate. In this environment, economic competition is constrained and value can only be assured by directly measuring it. In this paper, the problems associated With various existing value assessment Methods applied to naval shipbuilding are Discussed. It is found that a bottom-up, Process-based approach is the key to Naval shipbuilding value assesment.
