SINCE I LAST WROTE TO YOU, the country has begun moving slowly from a virtual world to one where face-to-face contact is being restored. Our commitment from the ASNE leadership team was to be ready for that transition and I believe we are.In particular, we held our last virtual only symposium back in April -Intelligent Ship Symposium (ISS) 2021 was a wonderful event featuring RDML Huan Nguyen, USN, the NAVSEA Deputy Commander for Cyber Engineering (NAVSEA 03) as our keynote speaker. As I watched neighbors queuing in the lines waiting for gasoline last week due to the ransomware attack on the East Coast gasoline pipeline, I was reminded of the threat warning offered by Admiral Nguyen to our Navy ships, planes and networks. Another highlight for me at ISS 2021 was the mentoring panel hosted by several members of the NSWC Philadelphia Division team who shared their stories and fielded questions from young engineers looking to get a start in our world of naval engineering. All in all, ISS 2021 was very well done, and I thank the planning committee and the ASNE staff for another successful symposium.
