The 56TH Annual Conference of the Renaissance Society of America in 2010 brought together scholars of architecture, cartography, history, social science and politics in a session which addressed the diverse theme of the ship in the visual arts from the Renaissance to the Modern era. The ship motif, maritime maps, nautical accessories like anchors, rudders, and sails, and port city landscape design are primarily tackled by the various authors as the focus of discussions about expressions of imperialism and sea power.
