Tokyo Tech researchers have figured prominently in refining holographic technology. The Hungarian-born British scientist Dennis Gabor developed holographic imaging as a means of improving resolution in electron microscopy by compensating for aberrations. His invention, which earned him the 1971 Nobel Prize in Physics, set off a flurry of work in laboratories worldwide.
