Nature Asia-Pacific Publishing Rankings 2009

To much of the world, and indeed even within the region, the relative strength of individual Asia-Pacific institutions can be difficult to pin down. The Nature Asia-Pacific Publishing Index offers a means of researching exactly this information. The Index website (www.natureasia.com/publishing-index/) maintains an up-to-date publishing record for all research institutions and organizations in the Asia-Pacific region - numbering several hundred - that contribute to papers published in Nature and the family of Nature research journals each year. The Nature Asia-Pacific Publishing Index makes it possible to rank these institutions according to their level of contribution to the literature published in Nature journals, and here we show the top ten institutions for 2009. As may be expected, Japanese institutions, the traditional powerhouses of research in the region, head the list, but there are also some surprises.
