摘要

Rare-earth dopants enable a myriad of display technologies. Their emissions are strong, spectrally narrow, and, in suitable host materials, can match the saturated primary colors necessary for a full-color display. Excitation mechanisms, including electric fields, cathode beams, and pho- tons, lead to device configurations and applications. This versatility, coupled with continued discovery and otimiza- tion of host materials and energy-transfer mechanisms, has resulted in displays with enhanced brightness, resolution, lifetime, color purity, and viewing angle, and re- duced power consumption.
