The generation of nanowires possess- ing desired lengths and diameters remains a challenge for the future. How- ever, considerable advances have been achieved in producing metal-or oxide- filled carbon nanotubes. For ferromag- netic metals, it appears that the most efficient and low-cost route to these quasi-one-dimensional materials lies in the thermolysis of metal/carbon com- plexes (e.g., metallocenes).
