The strength of the grain trade, particularly fronthaul shipments from East Coast South America, continues to be a key factor in the Panamax and Supramax markets. In its latest grain markets update, the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) has raised the forecast for global wheat trade in 2016/17 (Jul-Jun) by a further 1.8 Mt to a record 180.1 Mt. This increase primarily reflects an upgrade to import forecasts for countries in Southern Asia, particularly India and Bangladesh, which countered a number of modest downgrades elsewhere.
