My initial contact with the Newark Branch of the Central RR of New Jersey occurred when I picked up an old issue of Model Railroader magazine (June 1986) and read Vic Roseman's article "Let's model the Newark Branch." Roseman's story painted a vivid picture of an amazingly busy, yet remarkably short, branch line connecting Newark and Jersey City. This urban branch also provided a water connection from Jersey City to New York via ferries owned and operated by the railroad.
