TUNGSTEN CARBIDE TOOL TIPS FOR THE HOME WORKSHOP

Almost all of the various examples of tungsten carbide tool tips Included in photo 1, are those known as "Throw Away", disposable or indexable tips, that are designed to fit and be clamped or screwed onto a machined steel tool holder. I have sometimes found severe limitations when using this sort of tool holder for the following reasons: 1. The design and shape and bulk of the tool holder inhibit clearance space between the tool tip and the workpiece, thereby affecting the depth of cut and metal removal. 2. The size and shape of the tool holder inhibit clearance space between that and other parts of the machine such as the tailstock and revolving centres when used.
